ALOE VERA
Some noteworthy studies by the Scientific Community
1. (a) Aloe Vera enhanced the bioavailability of Vitamin C and Vitamin E in humans by more than 200 percent, and (b) the vitamins lasted longer in the blood stream. (Ale Vera is the only known natural supplement that increases the absorption of both water soluble and fat soluble nutrients).
2. Aloe Vera helped reduce the symptoms of some patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The study involved only patients with a history of unsuccessful conventional therapy with medication, bulking agents and dietary intervention, which made the findings more remarkable. The favorable results could be due to polysaccharide Mannose-6-phosphate working in synergy with other compounds to activate fibroblast receptors that promote healing.
3. Researchers have isolated five compounds in Aloe Vera with anti-hyperglycemic effect which would be useful for long term blood glucose level control in managing diabetes.
4. A6-week study involved 72 patients between ages 35 and 70 who were not responding to diabetic drug glibenclamide. When Aloe Vera was added to the same dosage of glibenclamide, average 48% reduction in blood sugar level and average 52% reduction in triglycerides level were achieved. The control group which received a placebo and the same dosage of glibenclamide showed no improvement from the baseline data.
5. Polysaccharides in Aloe Vera exhibited anti-genotoxic and anti-tumour promoting activities in in-vitro models.
6. A study over a 5-year period by Agarwal involved 5,000 patients with atheromatous heart disease. Patients took 100 grams of Aloe Vera per day for 3 months, plus restricted alcohol and cigarette intake and increased fiber intake. In 93% of the patients, chest pain disappeared and their cholesterol and triglyceride levels returned to normal.
